Johnny Massacre (a.k.a John Doran) was a hugely popular street performer who did his one man show on the streets of my hometown Galway entertaining locals and tourists alike. Among the many buskers that line the streets Johnny stood out as a step above the rest, comedy being as much a part of the act as tricks. I took these photos during one of his shows on a sunny june afternoon only a number of weeks before he would tragically die in a car accident.

The cargo vessel Plassey was shipwrecked in the 1960s on Carraig na Finnise reef on Inis Oirr - the smallest of the three Aran Islands which lie off the west coast of Ireland. The Islanders rescued the entire crew safely. In later years the wreck was thrown up on the rocks far above high tide mark. It features in a flyover in the opening credits of the TV show Father Ted.

La Pedrera (the quarry) or Casa Míla, to give it its offical name, is an apartment buidling in Barcelona built by Antoni Gaudí between 1906 and 1910. From the petrified wave outisde facade with its seaweed railings, to its central courtyard, to the roof with sentinal chimneys and mosaic covered sculptures, La Pedrera is an architetural masterpiece.
